Mod Rewrite is critical to being fully indexed in search engines and, believe it or not, many content management systems out there still use Query String URLs. Let us clarify: A Query String looks like:
www.mysite.com/index.php?cat=movies&pname=movie-title
Mod Rewrite translates that into a search engine friendly URL like:
www.mysite.com/movies/movie-title/
Search engines, by default, associate movie-title/ to movie-title/index.html. Basically, even though there really isn’t a folder called “movies” with a sub folder “movie-title” with a file in that is named “index.html”, the spider is none the wiser, and indexes your dynamically generated page as if it were. Brilliant!!!

Also by using this markup language the code base will not degrade or become obsolete any time in the near future.
